Being severely overweight is not just a matter of looks. Many experts believe obesity is the most serious health threat facing the public today, primarily because it increases the risks and complications of many serious conditions. Cancer, heart disease and diabetes, for example, are all negatively impacted by excessive weight. Obesity and morbid obesity can also damage your financial health, by leading to more frequent visits to physicians, lost time at work, increased medical bills, and spiraling food costs.

What is Morbid Obesity?

Morbid obesity is defined as being 100 lbs. or more over your ideal body weight or having a body mass index of 40 or higher. It is estimated that 5 to 10 million Americans are currently morbidly obese, and at risk for serious complications, including heart disease, diabetes, sleep apnea, infertility and osteoarthritis.
